Egypt’s Egrobots Debuts Region’s First Autonomous Harvesting Robot

3 Min Read

Egyptian DeepTech specialist Egrobots has officially launched the first autonomous agricultural harvesting robot fully developed by local engineers, marking a significant milestone for Egypt and the wider Arab region’s push into advanced AI and robotics. The launch signals a growing capability within the local tech ecosystem to build, not just implement, sophisticated hardware solutions.

Quick Facts

  • First Egyptian-developed autonomous harvesting robot.
  • Harvests at a rate of 160 kg per hour.
  • Operates continuously 24/7 with four robotic arms.

AI and Computer Vision Driving Farm Automation

The new robot operates using a complex system of computer vision, AI, and autonomous navigation. These technologies allow it to independently identify ripe crops, calculate the most efficient routes through a farm, and perform harvesting tasks with high precision, requiring minimal human oversight.

Its design is both flexible and scalable, capable of being fitted with up to four robotic arms that work in tandem. This configuration is key to its high productivity rate and its ability to operate around the clock.

Addressing Labor Shortages and Rising Costs

This innovation arrives as the global agricultural sector increasingly turns to automation to solve persistent challenges. Egrobots’ machine directly addresses the dual pressures of seasonal labor shortages and increasing operational costs that impact farm profitability. By offering a continuous, 24/7 harvesting capability, the robot provides a reliable alternative to manual labor.

The project is being highlighted as a new benchmark for Egyptian startups, demonstrating a move from utilizing AI applications to developing complete DeepTech solutions designed and manufactured in the country.

Eng. Akhlad Al-Abhar, Co-founder and CEO of Egrobots, stated that the launch is a major step toward a future where intelligent systems are a fundamental part of the region’s agricultural infrastructure.

“We aim to support digital transformation and promote sustainability by leveraging robotics to boost production across Egypt and the Middle East, proving that local talent can develop solutions capable of competing on a global scale,” Al-Abhar noted.
