Algeria’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises has officially launched the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Project (GGJAP), a new initiative developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Supported by the Kingdom of Denmark, the program aims to bolster green entrepreneurship and create sustainable employment opportunities across the country.

Building a Train-the-Trainer Model
During the launch event, Minister of Knowledge Economy Noureddine Ouaddah highlighted that the program marks a new phase of cooperation between Algeria and Denmark. He explained that the accelerator will focus on strengthening the capabilities of key ecosystem enablers, including incubators and government bodies like the National Agency for the Management of Microcredit (ANGEM) and “NASDA.”
The core strategy involves a “train-the-trainers” model designed to transfer international-standard expertise to local mentors. This approach is intended to scale the program’s impact across Algeria’s provinces, fostering the development of new economic projects aligned with environmental sustainability.
“The green economy is an essential part of the knowledge-based economy and contributes to the diversification of the national economy,” Ouaddah stated, adding that the collaboration with Denmark could pave the way for future partnerships in development and innovation.
International Partnership for Local Impact
The project is backed by the Danish-Arab Partnership Program (DAP), which supports job creation for youth and women and assists the MENA region’s transition to a green economy.
Katrine From Hoyer, the Danish Ambassador to Algeria, expressed hope that the program would make a significant contribution to Algeria’s economic and environmental ecosystem by encouraging green initiatives and promoting sustainable development.
Natacha van Rijn, the UNDP’s Resident Representative in Algeria, affirmed that creating jobs and advancing green growth are central to the program’s priorities. She noted that the project specifically targets women and youth across the nation and that the first implementation phase—training sessions for coaches from various provinces—has already begun.
From Policy to Practice
The accelerator aims to build on existing momentum within Algeria’s public agencies. Souad Ben Jamil, Director General of ANGEM, emphasized the importance of the training sessions for staff from both ANGEM and NASDA to certify them in developing and expanding green economy activities.
Ben Jamil pointed to ANGEM’s growing focus on environmental projects, citing the “Thousand Waste Collectors” initiative. This program provides young people with tricycles designed for collecting plastic waste, which is then directed to recycling facilities. The initiative serves the dual purpose of creating new economic activity while preserving the environment.
