Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the first edition of the “Digital Innovation Challenge 2026,” a new initiative designed to boost innovation among university students and help transform promising ideas into viable technology companies. The program aims to support Egypt’s digital transformation goals by building a new generation of tech entrepreneurs.

A Pipeline for a Knowledge-Based Economy
Organized through a collaboration between the Innovators and Geniuses Care Fund (IGCF) and the Leadership Development Institute, the challenge is part of a national strategy to embed a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the academic system. The program provides a platform for discovering and nurturing student talent by offering technical support, mentorship, training, and incubation.
The initiative targets a wide range of critical sectors for digital solutions, including digital health, smart education, tourism, industry, environmental sustainability, modern agriculture, fintech, and e-commerce. It also has a strong focus on emerging fields like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Funding and Incubation Breakdown
The challenge has allocated a prize pool of over EGP 300,000 to support the most promising projects. The financial incentives are structured to provide direct seed funding and access to ecosystem resources.
The first-place winner will receive EGP 100,000 in initial funding along with a spot in a specialized business incubator. The second-place project will be awarded EGP 75,000 plus incubation and mentorship, while the third-place winner gets EGP 50,000 and access to training programs.
Additional awards include EGP 20,000 prizes for runners-up and two special EGP 20,000 prizes: one for the best project in design and user experience, and another for the project with the greatest social and sustainable development impact. All notable projects will also receive certificates and media support.
Key Dates and Eligibility
Applications for the challenge are open until August 3, 2026. A shortlist of qualified projects will be announced on August 17, with the final competition and awards ceremony scheduled for September 3, 2026.
The competition is open to all students enrolled in Egyptian universities and institutes—whether public, private, or technological—as well as postgraduate students. This broad eligibility criteria aims to attract a diverse pool of innovators from across the country’s higher education system.
