Egypt is exploring a specialised investment fund for biotechnology and medical technologies to attract capital, support local innovation and improve healthcare services, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar discussed the proposed fund with representatives of Gold Rock Venture at the ministry’s headquarters in New Alamein. The initiative would target medical devices, diagnostics, biotechnology, digital health and artificial intelligence, with a focus on technologies that can be deployed and scaled in practice.

The discussions also covered a pathway linking scientific research and intellectual property with product development, testing, manufacturing and market entry. Universities and university hospitals could support the testing and validation of new healthcare technologies, according to the ministry.

The proposed partnership would seek to attract international healthcare companies and advanced technologies to Egypt, encourage technology transfer and local manufacturing, and help Egyptian companies expand into regional and international markets.

The ministry also reviewed opportunities in diagnostics and medical devices, as well as the use of AI and digital tools to expand access to specialised care and improve healthcare delivery. It said investments should address specific healthcare needs and prioritise practical, scalable solutions.
