As AI tools become more common in children’s schoolwork, Kaspersky is urging parents to help them use the technology as a learning aid rather than a replacement for their own work.
According to the company, children can use AI to explain difficult concepts, suggest essay ideas, review drafts and provide practice questions. However, parents should discourage them from submitting complete AI-generated essays or solutions without understanding them.
Kaspersky also warns that AI systems can produce convincing but incorrect information, including invented sources, false facts and misleading images. Children should learn to question AI-generated answers, check important claims against textbooks, class notes or trusted educational sources, and explain information in their own words.
The company recommends five basic checks: identify the source, confirm that the answer matches the task, make sure the child understands it, verify it elsewhere and ask an adult when the topic involves health, safety or sensitive information.
Children should also avoid sharing personal or school-related data with AI services, including names, addresses, passwords, identity documents, school details and other people’s photos or messages. Kaspersky further recommends strong, unique passwords, two-factor authentication, official app downloads, software updates and regular privacy reviews.
“AI can be a valuable learning tool” when it helps children explore and test their understanding, said Andrey Sidenko, Cyber Literacy Projects Lead at Kaspersky.
