Iraq’s scientific and professional library association has launched a national initiative to document libraries across the country through a dedicated digital platform called the National Library Directory.
The initiative is designed to increase the visibility of Iraqi libraries online and create a national database containing information about their locations, services and capabilities. According to the announcement, the directory will serve government and non-government institutions, researchers, students and other users.
The association said the platform will help present Iraq’s libraries as active scientific, cultural and educational institutions, while supporting collaboration among libraries, universities, research bodies and the wider community. It has called on libraries and relevant institutions to join the directory and complete their profiles.
The move comes as Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in partnership with Clarivate, holds a workshop on turning academic research and innovation into products and solutions with economic value. Discussions include links between universities and industry, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and partnerships between academic institutions and the public and private sectors.
Baghdad is also set to host this year’s Entrepreneurship Summit from November 18 to 20 at the Baghdad International Fair. Organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and the Ministry of Planning, the summit will bring together entrepreneurs, startups, small and medium-sized businesses, and public and private sector organisations.
