Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) has established an AI Committee to oversee the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence across its operations in Bahrain.

The committee will focus on improving productivity, operational efficiency and decision-making, while supporting better customer outcomes and the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.

BDB’s committee is chaired by Group Chief Executive Officer Dalal Al Qais, with Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Nada Medhat Azmi as vice-chair. It includes representatives from executive management, technology, banking services, credit and risk, legal affairs, human resources, compliance, information security and other functions.

At its first meeting, the committee set out the bank’s AI direction, governance framework and priorities for its first year. A cross-functional team will support the delivery of initiatives aligned with BDB’s strategy.

According to the announcement, BDB has also created a phased AI roadmap covering oversight, employee capability building, technology and data readiness, use-case development and value measurement. The bank said AI will be pursued where it can create measurable business impact and strengthen the customer and employee experience.
