The Africa Tech 50 index reached the Egyptian Exchange, bringing together startup founders, investors, regulators and financial market stakeholders to discuss capital pathways for African technology companies at more advanced stages of growth.
The Cairo event, held on September 22, followed the index’s launch on the London Stock Exchange in January 2026 and its first African activation in Johannesburg in July. It featured the “Cairo Market Open,” including the market’s opening bell and discussions on the future of capital for scaling technology companies.
Created by Indexa Exchange Group, Africa Tech 50 tracks 50 private African technology companies selected using criteria covering revenue strength, valuation momentum, liquidity visibility, governance maturity, strategic expansion and market signals. The index spans more than 23 African countries and eight sectors, with fintech accounting for 26 companies. It is a benchmark, not an investment product.
Nine Egyptian companies are included: Bosta, Breadfast, MNT-Halan, MaxAB, MoneyFellows, Nawy, Paymob, Vezeeta and Yodawy.
The event also included representatives from the Egyptian Exchange, FRA Sandbox, IFC, PwC, Development Partners International, Sawari Ventures, Zilla Capital and Silverbacks Holdings, alongside founders from companies including Chari, Flutterwave, Thndr and Valu.
According to the announcement, the initiative could encourage Egyptian startups to strengthen governance, financial reporting, transparency and institutional readiness as they move beyond early-stage funding toward potential acquisitions, institutional investment or public-market access.
