Qatar-based agentic AI startup Aligator has raised $1.2M in seed funding in a round led by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and Next Ventures, the Media City Qatar fund. A group of private investors also participated.

Founded in 2025 by Ali Abbas, Aligator develops autonomous AI agents for public relations teams. Its platform automates tasks including drafting and distributing press materials, monitoring media coverage, matching journalists and outlets, and managing outreach.

The company was founded by Qatar Foundation alumni from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and Texas A&M University at Qatar. It is incorporated in Media City Qatar and licensed by the Qatar Financial Centre.

According to the announcement, Aligator will use the funding to accelerate product development, hire across engineering, AI research and go-to-market functions, and expand across the GCC and wider MENA region. Its target customers include agencies, corporates and government communications teams.

“Public relations is one of the most relationship-driven and time-intensive industries,” founder Ali Abbas said, adding that the investment will support the company’s product roadmap and regional expansion.
