SoftBank Group has completed its $30 billion investment in OpenAI, bringing its total investment in the ChatGPT maker to approximately $64.6 billion and giving it a 13% stake.
The investment was completed through three $10 billion tranches from SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2. It fulfills the Japanese conglomerate’s commitment to OpenAI’s latest funding round, which secured $122 billion in commitments and valued the company at around $852 billion, according to Reuters.
Amazon, Nvidia and SoftBank were among the major investors in the round.
SoftBank also raised $11.1 billion through a high-yield corporate bond sale in September to support investments in OpenAI and the wider artificial intelligence sector. Earlier in 2026, it secured a $40 billion bridge loan for additional investments. Following the latest transaction, SoftBank canceled the remaining $10 billion of undrawn capacity under that loan.
