Reddit will discontinue RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, and shut down public access to its API by March 2027 as it moves to tighter control over how its content is accessed and used.
The company said RSS has become a channel for large-scale data extraction and abusive automation. The decision will affect users who follow Reddit through feed readers, as well as moderators who rely on RSS for community alerts. Reddit recommends that moderation teams using RSS move to Discord Relay, built on its Devvit platform. It said there is currently no replacement for other RSS use cases.
Reddit will stop accepting new public API access requests on October 31, 2026. From January 12, 2027, it plans to remove access for apps and users that have not registered or engaged with its developer platform, before ending the remaining public access in March.
Products including social listening tools, research applications and some AI services will need commercial agreements with Reddit to continue accessing its data. The company said more than 14,000 apps and bots have already registered.
To support the transition, Reddit has launched a $1M program that includes $1,000 payments for eligible apps that successfully migrate, along with potential funding, free hosting and technical support.
