OpenAI Launches Codex Cloud Environments for Collaborative Development

2 Min Read

OpenAI has introduced Codex Cloud Environments, a new platform that lets developers use reusable cloud-based development environments and access their applications and coding tools from a computer, smartphone or the cloud.

Announced during DevDay, the update is designed to help development teams work with shared configurations and approved permissions, making it easier to collaborate on projects and begin tasks faster, according to the company.

OpenAI also upgraded Codex’s command-line interface, allowing developers to manage tasks by voice for the first time. A new /agents dashboard helps users assign tasks and track their progress in real time.

Other updates include improved prompt editing, session resumption, worktree organisation and a clearer interface for reviewing longer tasks. Codex is also now integrated with the ChatGPT desktop app, enabling developers to review code summaries, changes and issues before sending feedback through GitHub or GitLab. The integration supports automated reviews while the developer is away from their device.

OpenAI additionally launched Codex Security Cloud, which can automatically scan GitHub repositories after updates, investigate findings and suggest fixes. The company also expanded access to its cybersecurity models through Daybreak Blue and introduced Decisions API and an updated Agents API for real-time decisions and running coding agents on AWS infrastructure.
