Doordash Launches Text-To-Order AI Agent Through Apple Messages

DoorDash has launched a text-to-order AI agent that lets users place food orders through Apple Messages, the company announced Wednesday.

Users can send prompts such as “order my usual,” and the agent will interpret the request based on their previous ordering patterns. They can also ask for a specific dish or a local recommendation. The tool searches nearby restaurants, suggests a cart and can send photos of recommended food.

For group orders, DoorDash said the agent can manage different dietary preferences and quantities in a single order. The company is opening a waitlist for users in the U.S. to test the feature.

The launch comes as food delivery platforms compete to adopt AI agents that can complete tasks without requiring users to navigate an app or website. DoorDash is also positioning the tool against rivals including Uber Eats and Grubhub.

Separately, the company said it will begin testing delivery drones with selected restaurants in Northern California.
