Dubai Municipality Joins Digital Twin Consortium to Advance Virtual City Planning

Dubai Municipality has joined the Digital Twin Consortium (DTC), a global organisation focused on advancing digital twin technology for infrastructure planning and urban development.

The consortium has 170 member entities worldwide. Through the membership, Dubai Municipality will gain access to international expertise and emerging applications involving digital twins, geospatial data, artificial intelligence and predictive analytics. It will also contribute to discussions on standards for developing and using digital twins.

Dubai Municipality has already built a significant digital foundation through its Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Centre. The centre combines location-based data on buildings, roads and infrastructure with 3D models to simulate real-world conditions and support urban planning and service delivery.

The municipality has created 3D models of more than 195,000 buildings and connected its digital twin platform to the No Objection Certificate system, developed with utility entities across the emirate.

Officials said the consortium will help Dubai exchange knowledge, assess international applications and translate relevant expertise into practical use across infrastructure development, government decision-making and sustainable urban planning. Delegations from 10 countries also shared their technologies and experiences during the meeting.
