Morocco Says Industrial Ecosystem Can Produce Complex Aerospace Systems

Morocco has developed the industrial and technological capabilities to produce complex aerospace and defense systems, Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour said at the opening of the Marrakech Airshow.

Mezzour said the country’s progress over the past two decades has strengthened its ability to expand production, deliver on time and meet quality and competitiveness standards. Morocco is also moving beyond manufacturing, he said, with efforts to design systems locally and better respond to investors’ needs for skills, production capacity and delivery timelines.

The Marrakech International Airshow, now in its eighth edition, brings together international companies and industry representatives. It will run until October 10, with aircraft exhibitions, air displays, business meetings and discussions on industrial sovereignty, value chains and digitalization.

Morocco’s aerospace sector generated more than $2.54B in export revenue in 2024 and includes 150 companies, according to the announcement. The government offers incentives including a corporate tax exemption for the first five years, reduced tax rates thereafter, VAT exemptions, duty-free equipment imports and subsidized land and utilities.

Morocco is also targeting production of its first aircraft engine by 2027 or 2028, with full production capacity planned by 2030, Mezzour said last year. The country is investing in vocational training, engineering education and advanced industrial capabilities to build its workforce.
