The Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) has signed an agreement with The Boring Company to assess underground transport, utility tunnels and related infrastructure across the emirate.
The exploratory partnership will examine tunnel planning, boring technologies, construction methods, safety, maintenance, automation and delivery models. It will also include work on local skills development, according to the announcement.
No routes, project budget or construction timeline have been disclosed. The two organisations will assess feasibility and operating models, as well as Abu Dhabi’s potential role as a regional hub for underground infrastructure.
The agreement follows The Boring Company’s separate work with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority on Dubai Loop. The first phase of that project covers a 6.4km route with four stations linking the Dubai International Financial Centre and Dubai Mall.
The Boring Company, founded by Elon Musk, develops tunnels for transportation, utilities and freight. The company also raised a $3B Series D round backed by UAE and affiliated investment entities, according to the source, valuing it at $23B. The funding was reported as separate from the Dubai Loop project.
