King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) hosted the 13th Saudi HPC/AI Conference from October 26 to 28, bringing together around 400 researchers, industry leaders and government representatives from Saudi Arabia, alongside international experts.
The conference focused on how high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence can support research, innovation and Saudi Arabia’s national priorities. Sessions covered applications across health and wellness, sustainable environments and essential supplies, energy and industrial leadership, and future economies.
The three-day program included training sessions, keynote addresses and panel discussions involving KAUST faculty, researchers, and experts from academia and industry.
The event also showcased early-stage projects using GPUs recently deployed in the Shaheen III supercomputer for HPC and AI applications. According to the announcement, the projects highlighted practical applications of the university’s expanded computing capabilities.
KAUST President Professor Edward Byrne said the conference offered a platform to examine how HPC and AI could contribute to research and development in areas including healthcare, energy, environmental sustainability, industry and the digital economy.
Conference chair Dr. Saber Feki said the event also aimed to transfer HPC and AI expertise to the next generation of scientists and support their research and professional development.
