Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with TUM International GmbH, a subsidiary of Germany’s Technical University of Munich, to explore collaboration in applied research, technology transfer and innovation.

The partnership will connect TUM International’s academic and technology transfer expertise with businesses and researchers based at DSO, including its District IO development. Areas under consideration include market-led research, proof-of-concept projects, feasibility studies, technology showcases, capacity building and the commercialisation of innovations.

DSO will also explore working with TUM International on a research and innovation centre at the Dubai zone. The proposed centre would support long-term cooperation between universities and industry, while joint programmes, workshops and innovation challenges could help expand international research links.

The agreement was signed during a DSO delegation’s visit to TUM’s high-tech campus in Germany by DSO Director General Badr Buhannad and TUM International CEO Friederike Hettinger.

District IO is a planned AED11 billion expansion designed to support research, development and future technologies. According to the announcement, it is expected to attract more than 6,500 SMEs and startups across areas including artificial intelligence, robotics, smart mobility, quantum computing and Web3.
