Packo, a shopping app developed by a Syrian team, has launched in Canada, recording more than 1,200 users in its first month, according to a post by Ali Alshikh, one of the team members.

The app generated more than 100 deals, partnered with over 30 stores and saw users purchase more than 50 coupons during the period. The team said the product was built end to end by Syrian talent, covering ideation, planning, design, software engineering and market launch.

The launch highlights the ability of Syrian technology professionals to build products for international markets despite the restrictions and challenges that have affected the country’s technology sector, the post said.

Packo began as an effort to create a shopping product while demonstrating the reach of Syrian technical expertise. Following its launch in Canada, the team said it is preparing to expand into additional markets, with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar among its next targets.
