Algerian mobility startup Nroho is using algorithm-powered carpooling to connect drivers and passengers travelling along similar routes, offering an alternative to single-occupancy trips and conventional ride-hailing.
Founded in 2024 by Younes Ahmane and his co-founder, Nroho operates through a mobile app. Drivers can publish planned journeys, while passengers search for rides based on their schedules, departure points and destinations.
The platform is designed to make use of spare capacity in vehicles that are already on the road. By matching people travelling in the same direction, Nroho aims to spread transport costs among passengers and help drivers offset some of the expense of journeys they had already planned.
Nroho’s algorithms analyse trip details to identify potential matches. The platform also considers user interests when pairing riders, adding a social compatibility layer to its route-matching function.
Co-founder and CEO Younes Ahmane is studying at Algeria’s National Higher School of Artificial Intelligence. His previous experience includes work in external relations and information technology at Skill&Tell Club, as well as a data mining engineering internship at Sonatrach.
The startup is positioning carpooling as a response to transport affordability challenges in Algeria. Its longer-term prospects will depend on building trust, safety and enough activity among drivers and passengers on common urban routes.
