The Dubai Centre for Family Businesses has launched a board directorship program for 27 current and aspiring family business leaders in partnership with the GCC Board Directors Institute (GCC BDI).

The World of Directorship – Certificate in Board Directorship will cover four interactive modules followed by an assessment. The curriculum includes corporate governance, directors’ roles and legal duties, board effectiveness, strategy, risk, ethics, finance and corporate reporting.

Participants who complete the modules and assessment will receive the Certified Director designation from GCC BDI. The program is based on the institute’s Framework for Board Effectiveness, which benchmarks directors’ knowledge against recognised governance standards.

The initiative comes as family businesses remain a major part of the UAE economy. According to the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, they contribute around 60% of the country’s GDP, account for more than 80% of employment and represent nearly 90% of private-sector companies.

Dubai Chambers said the program is intended to strengthen decision-making, governance and leadership capabilities while helping family businesses manage issues including strategy, risk, financial oversight and generational transitions.
