Dubai Municipality has upgraded its household water quality testing system with artificial intelligence to detect bacterial contamination, including Legionella and E. coli, at an earlier stage.
The enhanced service covers water storage tanks, taps, swimming pools and non-bottled drinking water across residential, hospitality, recreational and public facilities. According to the municipality, the broader monitoring scope is designed to help identify and contain potential waterborne contaminants more quickly.
AI-supported testing has also reduced laboratory processing times, allowing Legionella and E. coli results to be issued faster than through conventional methods. The system uses a fully electronic result-reading process to improve reliability and support immediate corrective action when needed.
Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, director of Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, said the authority is using AI and other advanced technologies to strengthen proactive public health protection, accelerate testing and improve the reliability of results.
The municipality said the upgrade supports its efforts to enhance Dubai’s public health system and maintain water safety standards across the emirate.
