Dubai Schools Set to Receive New AI Use Guidelines Next Year

2 Min Read

Schools in Dubai are expected to receive new guidelines on using artificial intelligence in classrooms next year, as the emirate seeks to balance digital education with safeguards for children.

Aisha Miran, director general of Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), said the guidance is intended to clarify when AI and other technologies can support learning and when their use may be inappropriate.

The details have not yet been released, but the framework is expected to address how schools use AI, the safeguards they should adopt and the role of parents. It may also consider a child’s age and stage of development when setting limits or recommendations.

The KHDA is working with other authorities on screen-time awareness and family education. Miran said schools cannot tackle the issue alone because children’s technology use continues at home.

The authority is not expected to require schools to use specific AI platforms. Instead, the standards may outline safeguards for schools to assess before adopting them, while allowing room for innovation.

The UAE plans to train 22,000 teachers and educators to use AI in teaching, assessment and lesson planning. Dubai’s Education 33 strategy, launched in October 2024, also identifies future skills, critical thinking and personalised learning as priorities.
