Egypt’s Education Development Fund held a roundtable to discuss policies for freelancing and entrepreneurship, with a focus on banking access, taxes and social insurance.
The meeting was organised under the “21st Century Skills and International Licensing Academies” project and brought together representatives from government ministries, financial and insurance institutions, the technology sector and Parliament, alongside experts.
Participants examined how to connect education and training more closely with labour-market needs and help young Egyptians move from acquiring skills to securing work in local, regional and international markets.
The discussions covered the regulatory framework for freelancing, freelance contracts and entrepreneurship in Egypt, as well as ways to simplify information and improve awareness of legal, tax, insurance and banking requirements.
Rasha Saad Sherif, secretary-general of the Education Development Fund, said the initiative aims to link professional and technology skills with entrepreneurship and the practical requirements of freelance work. She added that support should extend beyond training to include guidance on procedures, policies and access to markets.
According to Ahmed Adel, general manager of financial inclusion at Banque Misr, cooperation with the fund has helped engage international freelance and entrepreneurship platforms on facilitating payments to Egyptian workers. Some platforms have added international bank account number (IBAN) transfers among their payment options, he said.
The roundtable recommended simpler educational content, stronger advisory channels and closer coordination between government, banks, insurers, technology providers and training organisations.
