Egypt’s Ministries of Local Development and Environment have signed a cooperation agreement with Drone Tech to launch a smart aerial monitoring system. The initiative will use drones integrated with artificial intelligence and geospatial analysis to upgrade government oversight and improve public services.

Targeting Pollution and Urban Violations
The new system is designed to provide real-time field monitoring and data analysis, giving decision-makers across the country’s governorates a critical new tool.
Environment Minister Manal Awad stated the project will amplify oversight in areas directly impacting citizens’ daily lives. Key targets include illegal building violations, inefficient waste management, and pollution sources, specifically the seasonal “black cloud” phenomenon caused by the burning of agricultural waste.
The drone fleet will also be used to monitor encroachments on natural reserves and support national afforestation projects like the 100 Million Trees initiative.
Advanced Imaging Tech at the Core
According to the ministry, the project is a significant move to integrate modern technologies into government operations. It will leverage advanced spectral imaging technologies to analyze and track pollution sources with a high degree of precision.
Awad described the agreement as a “qualitative leap” for the country’s oversight capabilities, aligning with Egypt’s digital transformation strategy and its Vision 2030 goals.
A Phased National Rollout
Mohamed Shehata Youssef, Chairperson of Drone Tech, confirmed the company will provide comprehensive technical support for the system’s deployment. He noted that the project is the first of its kind in cooperation with the ministry.
Youssef added that the system will be introduced in phases across Egypt’s governorates. The rollout will prioritize key areas and be coordinated with relevant authorities to strengthen existing monitoring and regulatory frameworks.
