Egyptian educational technology platform Farid has officially obtained the “Startup Label” under Egypt’s National Startup Charter. The milestone makes it the first EdTech company to secure this classification from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), granting the startup access to regulatory facilitations, simplified digital government services, and a suite of growth incentives.

Quick Facts

  • Obtained Egypt’s official MSMEDA Startup Label certification.
  • Focuses on 1-to-1 social-emotional learning for ages 3–18.
  • Aims to reach 10 million Arab children by 2030.

Scaling Social-Emotional Learning in MENA

Founded in 2024 by entrepreneur Mahmoud Hussein, Farid delivers an educational model built entirely around live, one-to-one coaching sessions. The platform targets children and adolescents aged 3 to 18, focusing heavily on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), mental well-being, character building, and life skills development.

Farid operates as one of the few platforms in the region to prioritize individualized coaching over generalized curriculums. This approach creates a customized educational experience tailored to the psychological and social development of each child.

“At Farid, we believe that a child’s mental health and character building are no less important than academic achievement,” said Mahmoud Hussein, Founder and CEO of Farid.

Hussein noted that acquiring the Startup Label is a strategic step toward building a premier Arab platform that supports families, schools, and institutions in preparing a more resilient generation.

Multi-Sector Expansion and GCC Growth

To maximize its reach, Farid utilizes a multi-track operational model spanning four key sectors. In the B2C segment, it offers direct one-to-one digital sessions for families. Through its B2B and B2G models, the platform partners with private schools, educational institutions, and government bodies to integrate character-building programs into broader national curriculums. Additionally, its B2NGO arm collaborates with non-profits to execute community-driven youth initiatives.

To support this ambitious pipeline, the startup has launched a specialized training program for university graduates, aiming to build a qualified workforce of mental health and SEL coaches.

Farid has already established a branch office in Riyadh to drive its operations in the Saudi market. The expansion acts as a strategic launchpad into the broader GCC, enabling the startup to localize its educational and psychological content to fit the specific cultural nuances of Gulf communities.

By 2030, the company aims to empower 10 million children and adolescents across the Arab world while training a network of 10,000 certified coaches in its proprietary methodology.
