Cairo-based venture capital firm A15 has marked its ninth successful exit with the acquisition of its portfolio company, Viral Wave, by the music publisher PopArabia. The deal signals continued liquidity in MENA’s early-stage ecosystem and highlights the growing value of the region’s digital music infrastructure.

Quick Facts

  • Represents the ninth portfolio company exit for A15.
  • Viral Wave administers a catalog generating over 55 billion streams.
  • Acquired by PopArabia, MENA partner of NASDAQ-listed Reservoir.

Viral Wave to Power PopArabia’s Distribution Arm

Founded in 2023 as part of A15’s venture-building arm ARPUPlus, UAE-headquartered Viral Wave provides digital distribution, YouTube management, and monetization services. The company has built a significant presence, managing content for regional artists like Ramy Sabry, Ahmed Saad, Ruby, and Saber Rebai.

Under the terms of the acquisition, Viral Wave will now operate as PopArabia’s dedicated distribution and label services division. Its Egypt-based team will be integrated into PopArabia’s regional operations, combining their capabilities to strengthen music distribution and artist services across MENA. The transaction also expands the regional footprint of PopArabia’s New York-based partner, Reservoir.

A15’s Venture-Building Model Delivers Again

This exit further validates A15’s model of incubating and scaling companies. Viral Wave was originally spun out from ARPUPlus, demonstrating the firm’s ability to build assets that attract strategic buyers. A15’s nine exits now span fintech, media, advertising, and enterprise services, reflecting a broad investment strategy.

“A15’s ninth exit is a meaningful milestone, and one that reflects the consistency our team has built over more than two decades of investing and company-building,” said Karim Beshara, A15 Managing Partner. “We are proud of what the Viral Wave and ARPUPlus teams have achieved, and we congratulate them on reaching this outcome.”

Medhat Karam, CEO of ARPUPlus, added, “We are proud to have supported Viral Wave from inception through to this strategic outcome. Building enduring companies requires patience, operational depth, and a long-term commitment to the teams and markets we back.”

Global Music Giants Tap Into MENA’s Infrastructure

The deal points to a larger trend of global music companies viewing MENA not just as a consumer market but as a source for rights, talent, and catalogs. For founders and investors, the transaction shows that viable exit paths in the region extend beyond major sectors like fintech or e-commerce.

Niche infrastructure companies that plug into global platforms are becoming increasingly attractive acquisition targets. This acquisition suggests a shift in focus toward startups operating behind the scenes of major ecosystems, providing essential services like rights management and monetization.
