3 Min Read

AUC Venture Lab has officially released the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Egypt 2025 report, providing a comprehensive analysis of the nation’s evolving startup landscape. Developed by a dedicated research team from the American University in Cairo (AUC), the report serves as a critical diagnostic tool for understanding the current health, trends, and systemic challenges within the Egyptian entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Evaluating the State of Egyptian Entrepreneurship

The GEM Egypt 2025 report is the result of extensive annual research led by prominent academic figures, including Ayman Ismail, Ahmed Tolba, and Hakim Meshreki. By evaluating various indicators—ranging from societal values toward entrepreneurship to the regulatory environment—the study offers a data-driven overview of how the local market is maturing. It highlights key areas where Egypt excels, such as high entrepreneurial intent, while also identifying the structural bottlenecks that policymakers and stakeholders must address to sustain long-term growth.

A Collaborative Effort for Ecosystem Development

Produced by the AUC Onsi Sawiris School of Business, the report was made possible through strategic support from the Drosos Foundation, Oxfam, and the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP). This diverse backing underscores the regional and international importance of the Egyptian market as a primary hub for innovation in the MENA region. The insights gathered are intended to guide ecosystem stakeholders in creating targeted interventions that support founders through varying stages of their business lifecycle.

Driving Evidence-Based Policy for Startups

One of the primary functions of the GEM report is to provide actionable intelligence for government officials and institutional investors. By quantifying the challenges faced by local entrepreneurs, the report aims to influence the development of more supportive legal frameworks and financial instruments. This evidence-based approach is vital for ensuring that Egypt continues to attract venture capital and fosters a resilient environment where tech-driven enterprises can thrive and scale.
