Hub71-based healthtech startup BioSapien has hit a significant milestone, securing regulatory approval to move its flagship cancer treatment technology, MediChip™, into Phase I clinical trials in Abu Dhabi. The approvals from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE), and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) underscore the emirate’s growing capabilities as a global center for life sciences and clinical research.

A New Approach to Chemotherapy
BioSapien’s MediChip™ is a 3D-printed drug delivery platform engineered to administer chemotherapy directly to tumor tissue. By localizing the treatment, the technology aims to boost the effectiveness of the therapy while significantly reducing the severe side effects associated with conventional chemotherapy, which affects the entire body. This targeted approach could also lower the total amount of medication needed for patients.
The company will initially focus its clinical trials on patients with colorectal cancer, with plans to expand its research into other types of cancer in the future.
