The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has unveiled a major digital initiative aimed at transforming its trade ecosystem with the launch of the Trade and Logistics Performance Gateway in Aqaba. The new platform, a collaboration between the Jordan Customs Department (JCD), the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), and the International Trade Centre (ITC), will provide real-time insights into trade movements across sea, air, and land to bolster the nation’s competitiveness.
A Powerful Tool for Data-Driven Policy
The newly launched digital gateway is a robust analytical tool designed to empower decision-makers with actionable intelligence. It consolidates nearly one billion records from over 40 public and private sector entities, processing this vast amount of data into more than 1,500 performance indicators. These are visualized across 450 interactive dashboards, allowing for a comprehensive and granular view of the entire trade lifecycle. With five years of historical data already integrated, the platform enables stakeholders to track performance, identify bottlenecks, and formulate evidence-based policies.
Strengthening Aqaba’s Strategic Role
This initiative is a cornerstone of Jordan’s strategy to cement Aqaba’s position as a premier regional logistics and maritime hub. Speaking at the launch, Mohammad Abu Omar, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Investment at ASEZA, emphasized that the project aligns with Royal directives to position Aqaba as a center for sustainable development, job creation, and high-value investment, enhancing its role in global supply chains.
Enhancing Competitiveness and Efficiency
The gateway is expected to deliver significant improvements in efficiency for both public and private sectors. Brig. Gen. Raed Shayyab, Deputy Director General of Customs, described the platform as a “modern national tool” that enables stakeholders to access real-time data and address logistical challenges effectively. The platform aims to reduce trade time and costs, boost the competitiveness of the private sector, and unlock new market opportunities by creating a faster, smarter, and more transparent trade environment.
