The Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform has officially joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to launch a new global framework addressing the intersection of artificial intelligence and intellectual property. Minister Amal Al-Falah Al-Sagroshni represented the North African nation at the opening session, positioning the country as an active participant in global AI governance.

Quick Facts

  • Morocco joins WIPO’s AI Infrastructure Interchange platform.

  • Initiative focuses on digital watermarking and IP rights.

  • Backs the “AI Made in Morocco” startup ecosystem.

Advancing the AI Made in Morocco Strategy

Morocco’s participation aligns with its broader national agenda to place digital innovation at the core of its economic development. During the session, Al-Sagroshni emphasized the country’s ongoing efforts to build a robust tech ecosystem spanning research, talent development, and enterprise solutions.

Central to this push is the “AI Made in Morocco” initiative. The program targets the development of localized artificial intelligence tools for startups, research institutions, and traditional businesses.

Al-Sagroshni noted that driving responsible AI development will directly contribute to sustainable economic growth while ensuring compliance with emerging global standards.

She highlighted the necessity of cross-border cooperation to maintain transparency and digital content traceability.

Tackling Global AI Intellectual Property Challenges

Launched on March 17, the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII) serves as an international dialogue platform rather than a regulatory body. It aims to solve operational hurdles surrounding IP ownership in an era of rapidly advancing generative AI.

The initiative brings together digital creators, AI developers, and IP holders to share technical strategies. Discussions focus heavily on practical identification tools, including digital watermarking, metadata tagging, and content recognition systems.

These mechanisms help differentiate between human-created and machine-generated content, a critical pain point for copyright management.

To build out these frameworks, WIPO is establishing a Technical Exchange Network. This consortium will gather experts from civil society, academia, and the private sector to map out viable infrastructure solutions that protect creators without stifling technical progress.
