Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and Royale Marocaine d’Assurance (RMA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to more closely integrate academic innovation with the practical needs of Morocco’s insurance industry. The collaboration, finalized on April 8 in Casablanca, aims to build a direct bridge between emerging technologies, startup solutions, and established market players.
Quick Facts
- New partnership between UM6P and RMA.
- Focus on InsurTech and AI talent development.
- Creates direct startup-to-industry pipeline for solutions.
A Direct Pipeline for InsurTech Startups
At the heart of the agreement is a new InsurTech program managed by UM6P’s Open Innovation Hub. This initiative is designed to move beyond theoretical research by actively identifying and vetting startups whose technology aligns with RMA’s strategic priorities.
Selected startups will be put in direct contact with RMA’s internal teams, creating a fast track from concept to testing. The framework is built to support the co-development of market-ready tools and platforms, ensuring that new solutions are tailored to address real-world challenges within the insurance sector.
Developing Morocco’s Next-Gen AI Talent
Beyond technology, the partnership places a significant emphasis on building a skilled workforce. Students and young professionals will get access to specialized mentoring, internships, and hands-on projects, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence applications.
The goal is to equip future graduates with skills that match the ongoing digital transformation in finance and insurance. By providing direct exposure to professional environments and industry-specific problems, the program aims to close the skills gap and create a pipeline of talent ready to contribute immediately.
A Blueprint for Morocco’s Tech Ecosystem
This collaboration between UM6P and RMA is indicative of a broader strategic push in Morocco to connect innovation directly with key economic sectors. Rather than treating tech as a silo, the country is fostering closer ties between universities, corporations, and startups.
By embedding innovation within established industries, this model aims to produce practical solutions, strengthen local expertise, and solidify Morocco’s position as a technology hub on the continent. The partnership serves as a functional example of how academic and private sector actors can work together to build a more dynamic and responsive ecosystem.
