The iOS app combines menstrual tracking with guidance on prayer, fasting and ritual purification, tailored to four Islamic schools of jurisprudence.
Nisaa, a period-tracking app designed for Muslim women, combines menstrual cycle tracking with Islamic guidance on prayer, fasting and ghusl, or ritual purification.
The app helps users understand their menstrual status, including the distinction between hayd (menstruation) and istihadah (irregular bleeding), and how it affects their religious obligations. It supports all four Sunni schools of jurisprudence: Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali.
Nisaa also includes an AI assistant that answers questions about menstruation and worship, alongside more than 30 educational guides covering topics such as first periods, PCOS, period pain, Ramadan, Hajj and Umrah.
Another feature tracks missed Ramadan fasts, helping users record the days they need to make up and monitor their progress.
According to the Nisaa team, more than 10,000 women use the app each month. It is available on iOS in 19 languages, including Arabic, Urdu, Indonesian, Malay, Turkish, French, Bengali, Hausa and Somali.
The company says upcoming features include a pregnancy mode covering pregnancy, childbirth and nifas, as well as a community for Muslim women.
Nisaa is free to download, with a paid subscription option. The company also states that it does not sell users’ health data or share menstrual information with advertising networks.
