The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has announced a landmark year, with its 2025 profits surging by 86% as its portfolio expanded significantly. The Sultanate’s sovereign wealth fund has solidified its position as a major player in global finance, driven by a strong diversification strategy and successful capital recycling.
Quick Facts
- Annual profit hit OMR 2.9 billion.
- Assets under management reached OMR 23 billion.
- Return on investment stood at 14.6 percent.
A Top-Tier Global Performer
The fund’s annual profit climbed to OMR 2.9 billion, a substantial increase from OMR 1.6 billion in 2024. This performance was underpinned by a 14.6% return on investment, placing the OIA among the world’s top-performing sovereign investors.
Assets under management also grew by 13% in 2025, reaching OMR 23 billion ($60 billion). According to the authority’s statement, every dollar held by the fund in 2020 had grown by 73% by the end of last year, demonstrating consistent and powerful growth.
Driving Diversification and Foreign Investment
As Oman continues its economic strategy to move beyond hydrocarbons, the OIA has been instrumental in attracting capital. The fund successfully drew OMR 1.5 billion in foreign direct investment into Oman’s priority sectors in 2025 alone.
In a move to strengthen its financial position, the OIA also settled OMR 920 million in debt across its various subsidiary companies. On a national level, the authority’s capital spending on local projects reached OMR 2.4 billion for the year.
Capital Recycling and Portfolio Strategy
A key part of the OIA’s strategy is its divestment program, launched in 2022 to recycle capital and maximize returns. By the end of 2025, the fund had completed 24 divestments, generating OMR 2.8 billion for reinvestment into new opportunities.
The OIA’s portfolio is globally diversified, with investments in approximately 52 countries. While nearly two-thirds of its assets are held locally in Oman, the rest is allocated across major international markets. North America accounts for 19% of the portfolio, followed by Europe with 9% and the Asia-Pacific region with 4%.
