Oman’s North Al Batinah governorate has launched Digital Entrepreneurship Week in Sohar, bringing together entrepreneurs, technology experts, investors and public- and private-sector representatives around emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, e-commerce and information technology.
Held from October 15 to 18, the event is organised by the Office of the Governor of North Al Batinah under the “Digital 1” initiative, which aims to strengthen the governorate’s digital economy and support technology-driven startups and small businesses.
The programme includes workshops on digital marketing, e-commerce, artificial intelligence and digital business models. More than 350 people had registered for the workshops, according to the announcement.
The event also features the “Digital Lab 1” hackathon, with more than 60 registered participants developing prototypes for digital solutions. Projects will be assessed by specialised experts and judges, with the strongest ideas selected for further development.
During the opening, the governorate launched the “Aware Digital Community” initiative in partnership with Al Madina Al Bayda Investment. The six-month programme will train 30 digital awareness leaders to deliver cybersecurity and safe technology-use programmes through training content and a dedicated online platform.
The programme also activated a cooperation agreement with Musleh, a platform for air-conditioning and refrigeration inspection, maintenance and repair services, to support Omani talent and expand freelance opportunities.
