OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Into an App Discovery and Distribution Hub

OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT beyond a chatbot, positioning it as a place where users and AI agents can discover, launch and use software.

At its Dev Day event, the company said ChatGPT will recommend apps during conversations when they could help complete a task. Users will then be able to connect those apps and interact with them through ChatGPT, including via interactive panels built with the platform’s expanded extensions architecture.

OpenAI also introduced “Sign in with ChatGPT,” allowing users to carry their ChatGPT identity and existing AI allowance into third-party apps. The initiative has 16 launch partners, including Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw and Dactyl, with more expected to join.

The company is also launching an enterprise app marketplace with more than 30 partners, including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow and HubSpot. Eligible customers can apply part of their OpenAI commitment toward approved partner software, according to the announcement.

OpenAI said its autonomous AI agents, known as Dots, will be able to use connected apps while carrying out tasks. The system connects to more than 4,000 apps and could shift software discovery from users searching for tools to agents recommending them.

OpenAI did not announce a billing or revenue-sharing model comparable to traditional app stores.
