OpenAI Launches Dots AI Agents for Enterprise Work Across 4,000 Apps

OpenAI has launched Dots, a new class of AI agents designed to work continuously in the background and complete tasks across more than 4,000 applications.

Unveiled at the company’s DevDay 2026 conference, Dots can connect with tools including ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams. According to OpenAI, each agent has its own cloud computer and browser, allowing it to monitor projects, investigate issues, prepare documents and manage recurring workflows without requiring step-by-step instructions.

The agents can return to users when they need information, approval or a sensitive decision. OpenAI also offers “Specialist Dots,” which can be assigned specific responsibilities and access to business tools, credentials and company data. The company said it is testing these agents for procurement, invoice processing, email marketing, customer service and commercial contracting.

Safety controls are central to the rollout. Users can set rules for when an agent may act independently, while actions affecting accounts or sensitive information can require human review. OpenAI said some tasks, including password changes, still require direct intervention.

Dots are being introduced to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, with Enterprise access available through a controlled rollout. The launch places OpenAI deeper into the enterprise AI agent race, shortly after Meta’s Muse gained attention among consumers.
