A “Projects Market” Showcases 13 Emerging Startups

A core feature of the event, initiated by entrepreneurs Ghaith Obeidi and Anas Al-Janani, was the launch of a “Projects Market.” This segment provided a platform for 13 selected startups to present their ideas directly to an audience of potential investors, creating immediate opportunities for evaluation, feedback, and potential funding.

The event also included a panel discussion on current economic challenges and future opportunities, focusing on the role of the Syrian diaspora in supporting the national economy. Attendees were divided into specialized groups to facilitate focused discussions and collaboration.

Syrian Investment Authority Backs Diaspora-Led Initiatives

Talal Al-Hilali, head of the Syrian Investment Authority, emphasized the importance of the Syrian professional community abroad, describing it as a significant opportunity to support the investment environment back home.

In a statement to SANA, Al-Hilali highlighted the need to strengthen communication with Syrians living abroad and facilitate the transfer of their expertise to the domestic market, whether through launching new ventures or developing existing ones. He noted that the Authority is working to create a suitable environment to attract investment and provide necessary facilities, particularly for expatriate Syrian investors who possess a dual understanding of local and international markets.

From Simple Idea to High-Impact Gathering

According to co-organizer Ghaith Obeidi, the initiative began as a simple idea between two young Syrians aiming to create a space for professional dialogue outside traditional frameworks.

“The initiative started as a simple idea… to create a space that brings together Syrian talents and opens the door for discussion about business and investment,” Obeidi stated. He added that the large turnout reflected a genuine need for such platforms that foster real interaction between investors, entrepreneurs, and young professionals.

The success of the event was also attributed to the support from Syrian-owned companies based in the UAE, demonstrating the strong network within the diaspora community.
