Quick Facts

  • Project: Qasioun Journey national development initiative
  • Job Creation: Expected to generate over 7,000 jobs
  • Completion Target: Most components open by summer 2026

A “Purely Syrian” National Project

Officials describe the project as a key national initiative backed by presidential support. According to Damascus Governorate officials, the plan relies on local Syrian expertise for its implementation.

“The project is purely Syrian,” stated Tourism Minister Mazen al-Salhani, emphasizing its role as part of a larger strategy to introduce similar development initiatives across other provinces.

Culture Minister Mohammad Yassin Saleh added that the project exemplifies a practical, government-driven model for improving services and social conditions in the capital.

Blending Culture, Commerce, and Public Space

The “Qasioun Journey” integrates a mix of natural, cultural, and commercial facilities. Plans include free public seating areas, pedestrian paths, and an “innovation boulevard” designed for young people. The project will also feature dedicated spaces for handicrafts and ensure public services and facilities are accessible to people with disabilities.

Maher Marwan Idlbi of the Damascus Governorate noted that approximately 70 percent of the project will be free and open to the public. The development is supported by new electricity and sanitation infrastructure to ensure safety and sustainability.

A Blueprint for Nationwide Development

Beyond its immediate impact on Damascus, officials view the Qasioun project as a template for future development. The government’s vision involves transforming natural and historical sites for public benefit while supporting cultural identity and economic activity.

The next phase of this broader plan is expected to be implemented in the Damascus countryside. The initiative is also designed to create hundreds of small and medium investment opportunities, contributing to a wider economic recovery.
