Qatar Deepens Oracle Partnership To Bolster National Cloud Infrastructure

3 Min Read

Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has announced a significant expansion of its strategic partnership with global technology leader Oracle. The new agreement includes the establishment of a second dedicated government cloud region and the renewal of the technical support contract for Oracle licenses across all government entities for an additional three years, from 2025 to 2028.

This move underscores Qatar’s commitment to advancing its national digital infrastructure and enhancing the resilience and capabilities of its government services.

Strengthening Digital Sovereignty and Service Continuity

The centerpiece of the agreement is the creation of a new Oracle dedicated cloud region, which will function as an integrated backup data center. This initiative is designed to fortify the continuity of government digital services, ensuring uninterrupted operations and robust data protection.

By establishing a comprehensive backup infrastructure, the new region enhances the geographic resilience and operational readiness of the country’s cloud framework, addressing the escalating demands of digital transformation across the public sector.

Expanding on a Strategic Partnership

This latest development builds upon the successful collaboration that saw the launch of Qatar’s first dedicated government cloud region in February 2024. The addition of a second region is a direct response to the growing need for scalable, secure, and highly available cloud resources for government entities.

The expanded infrastructure will provide the necessary foundation for government bodies to scale their digital services securely and efficiently, aligning with national strategic objectives.

Powering Advanced Government Initiatives

Overseen by the MCIT, the Oracle Dedicated Cloud Region offers a full suite of advanced services, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), cloud applications, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies.

This comprehensive platform is set to accelerate the modernization of government services and foster greater innovation across the public sector. It will also play a crucial role in strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity posture and enabling the operational requirements of advanced AI solutions, positioning Qatar at the forefront of digital governance in the region.
