Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), through its Center for Digital Entrepreneurship (CODE), has initiated the Hajj and Umrah Tech Challenge. The program is designed to back entrepreneurs and innovators in creating digital solutions that improve the services and overall experience for pilgrims.
Quick Facts
- Program aims to support over 85 beneficiaries
- Targets the development of more than 30 prototypes
- Features three core technology tracks for innovation
Fostering Innovation Across Three Key Tracks
The challenge is structured around three main areas where technology can make a significant impact. Participants are invited to develop solutions in:
- Smart Crowd Management: Technologies that can help manage the flow and safety of large numbers of people.
- Pilgrim Experience: Digital tools to simplify the journey, from logistics and accommodation to religious rituals.
- Language and Communication: Solutions that break down language barriers and improve communication between pilgrims and service providers.
From Idea to Prototype
The program offers a complete journey for participants, starting with registration and selection. This is followed by a dedicated week for developing business models, a training bootcamp, technical support, and continuous mentorship.
The challenge culminates in a final judging day and closing ceremony where three winning projects will be announced. Participants will gain access to key stakeholders in the Hajj and Umrah sector, work with specialized mentors, and receive focused training on relevant technologies and market opportunities.
