Saudi technology company DataVolt is building a 100MW facility in NEOM dedicated to exporting computing capacity to international markets, according to the company’s announcement.
The project is expected to cost about $1B, with construction already underway and completion targeted within 13 months. DataVolt CEO Rajit Nanda said the timeline would make it the fastest project of its kind globally, according to Semafor.
The facility is being developed in partnership with Humain and will use subsea cables and low-cost renewable energy to deliver computing services to overseas customers. DataVolt plans to expand the site’s capacity to 360MW, while the company has said that the full 1.5GW of computing capacity planned for NEOM will be exported.
The project comes as Saudi Arabia increases investment in data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure. DataVolt said it is nearing completion of financing for the first facility.
Founded in Riyadh in 2023, the company has also committed to excluding Chinese components and technologies from the supply chain for its new data centres.
