The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has kicked off a new training program for 215 students from 28 universities across the Kingdom. The initiative, held at SDAIA’s Riyadh headquarters, is designed to build a pipeline of local talent skilled in data science, AI, and other advanced technologies as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives.
Quick Facts
- 215 students from 28 Saudi universities participating.
- Training focuses on data science, AI, and computer science.
- Aims to align academic learning with labor market needs.
Bridging Academia and Industry
Delivered through the SDAIA Academy, the program moves beyond theoretical knowledge by integrating practical, hands-on experience. Participants will be involved in high-impact projects within SDAIA, gaining direct exposure to the best practices and advanced systems used by the national authority. This approach is intended to close the gap between academic outcomes and the specific skill sets required by the rapidly growing tech sector in Saudi Arabia.
Building a National AI Workforce
This training is a key component of SDAIA’s broader strategy to cultivate a generation of data and AI professionals capable of boosting the Kingdom’s global competitiveness. The initiative directly supports the goals of Saudi Arabia’s “Year of Artificial Intelligence 2026,” translating a national designation into tangible skill-building outcomes for its youth. The program is built on a framework of partnerships between SDAIA and educational institutions throughout the country.
Mandatory AI Education Across the Kingdom
The student training program follows a more expansive move by SDAIA announced in February. The authority launched a National Cross-Disciplinary Curriculum that makes data and AI training mandatory for every undergraduate student in Saudi Arabia, regardless of their major. Unveiled at the International Conference on Data and AI Capacity Building, the curriculum ensures that AI literacy extends beyond traditional tech fields into areas like healthcare, engineering, and business. SDAIA has already signed agreements with 14 major public and private universities, including King Saud University and King Abdulaziz University, to implement the courses and establish long-term collaboration.
