A new report from Saudi Arabia’s Digital Government Authority reveals that 76% of the Kingdom’s government bodies are now prepared to adopt and deploy emerging technologies. The findings from the 2026 Emerging Technologies Adoption Readiness Index show a steady increase from last year’s 75% figure and signal a critical shift from experimental projects to live, operational use of AI, IoT, and robotics across the public sector.

From Pilots to Live Operations
The 2026 index, which expanded its assessment to 54 government entities from 49 in the previous year, underscores a maturing digital strategy. Government bodies are moving beyond proof-of-concept initiatives and are now actively integrating technologies like generative AI, agentic AI, the Internet of Things, and robotics into their core functions.
This transition is aimed at automating procedures, enhancing decision-making, and delivering measurable economic savings. The index measured readiness across four key dimensions: research capability (78.07%), integration capability (77.00%), communication capability (75.18%), and proof capability (73.92%).
Top Ministries Leading the Charge
The Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Energy, and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission were highlighted as the top-performing entities in the 2026 index. They were followed closely by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.
Notably, the top 20 list includes a diverse range of government functions, spanning defence, transport, environment, health, and justice. This indicates that advanced technology adoption is becoming widespread across the Saudi public sector, rather than being concentrated within a few digitally advanced ministries.
Bolstering Vision 2030’s Digital Ambitions
These results align directly with Saudi Arabia’s national transformation agenda, Vision 2030, and the government’s designation of 2026 as the Year of AI. The progress strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a global leader in digital government, an achievement recently recognized by the ITU Digital Readiness Framework, which placed Saudi Arabia in the top rank.
The Kingdom’s focused investment in digital infrastructure, regulatory reform, and cross-government coordination is accelerating its digital transformation and positioning it as a competitive hub for technology investment and AI development.
