4 Min Read

Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Development Fund (TDF) has graduated the first cohort of its “Tourism Growth Incubator” program, concluding a 10-month initiative designed to boost 30 early-stage companies. The graduation coincided with an Entrepreneurs and Investors Forum, aiming to connect the startups with potential funding opportunities to scale their operations within the Kingdom’s booming tourism sector.

Quick Facts

  • 30 startups graduated from the first cohort.
  • The program ran for ten intensive months.
  • Startups focused on travel tech, AI, and visitor experiences.

A Deep Dive into the 10-Month Program

The inaugural program, led by the TDF’s non-financial arm, the Tourism Growth Center, supported the 30 startups through two distinct tracks: an in-person track for 20 companies and a virtual one for the remaining 10.

Participants received extensive support, including over 230 business development sessions, more than 20 specialized workshops, 35 training opportunities, and 30 service grants. A key component of the incubator was an international visit to the H-Farm innovation hub in Italy, where founders were exposed to global best practices in entrepreneurship and product development.

Bridging Startups with Investors

The graduation ceremony was more than a celebratory event; it functioned as a strategic investor forum. The gathering brought together the graduating entrepreneurs with a select group of investors, government representatives, and private sector stakeholders. This provided a direct platform for the founders to pitch their projects and explore potential investment partnerships to fuel their next growth phase.

The incubated companies span a range of verticals critical to the tourism industry, including tourism technologies, digital platforms, visitor experience enhancement, cultural and heritage tourism, and solutions powered by artificial intelligence.

Fostering a National Tourism Ecosystem

The initiative is a core part of the TDF’s strategy to cultivate a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Tourism Strategy. The Tourism Growth Center, which runs the incubator, has already supported over 14,000 beneficiaries through its various non-financial programs.

Qusai Al-Fakhri, CEO of the Tourism Development Fund, commented on the program’s success. “The Tourism Growth Incubator is a practical model of the Fund’s role in empowering startups and entrepreneurs in the tourism sector by providing them with specialized knowledge, mentorship, and networking opportunities with investors and partners,” he stated. “We are proud of the progress the participating companies have made in their business models and their readiness for the next stage of growth, which reflects the promising potential of the Kingdom’s tourism entrepreneurship ecosystem.”
