The global startup community Startup Grind has officially launched a new chapter in Damascus, marking a significant development for Syria’s entrepreneurial landscape. The initiative aims to connect Syrian founders with global networks and provide a platform to foster local innovation and growth.

Local Leadership Driving the Initiative

The Damascus chapter will be led by investor and ecosystem builder Majed Lababidi, who will serve as the Chapter Director. Lababidi, a three-time entrepreneur, described the opportunity as a personal dream to contribute to the local ecosystem.

“As a Syrian entrepreneur, it has always been a personal dream to contribute to rebuilding and strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Syria,” Lababidi announced in a statement. “Today, that dream takes an important step forward.”

Joining him is Rama Abdlbaset as Co-Director, along with Basel Uneisi and Albaraa Abdulsalam, who are part of the founding team. Abdlbaset, a Gen Z founder, emphasized her mission to create a tangible impact. “My mission in Syria goes beyond building startups. It’s about creating impact by supporting, influencing, and leading with humility,” she stated.

Building a Bridge for Syrian Entrepreneurs

The core mission of Startup Grind Damascus is to serve as a central hub for the country’s emerging tech talent. The chapter plans to host events and provide resources that highlight local innovators and connect them with international investors, mentors, and partners.

“My hope is that Startup Grind Damascus becomes a platform that brings people together, highlights local talent, connects Syrian founders with global networks, and inspires the next generation of entrepreneurs to build, innovate, and lead,” explained Lababidi.

The launch is positioned as a foundational step in building a more resilient and interconnected startup community within Syria, offering a much-needed bridge to the wider global tech scene.
