Sustainability Forum Middle East has launched the second edition of its Sustainability Future Lab, inviting universities across Bahrain to take part in a new University Net Zero Challenge.
As part of the forum’s fifth edition, scheduled for 26–27 January 2027, student teams will develop practical roadmaps to reduce their university’s carbon emissions by 30% within five years. The initiative is organised by FinMark Communications with support from Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Environment and Higher Education Council, and is delivered in partnership with KPMG Bahrain.
Teams will examine areas including energy efficiency, renewable energy, water management, waste reduction, sustainable transport, procurement and carbon measurement. Their proposals will need to show measurable impact while remaining practical and scalable for higher education institutions.
According to the announcement, participants will receive support from sustainability mentors and technical specialists in emissions measurement, carbon accounting, engineering solutions, financial analysis and implementation planning. The challenge is designed to connect university research with real-world climate action and give students exposure to regional sustainability leaders through the 2027 forum.
