A Syrian delegation and Libya’s Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture have discussed ways to expand trade, investment and private-sector cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place at the Union’s headquarters in Tripoli and was led by Samir Al-Shalabi, chargé d’affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Libya, and Mohamed Al-Raed, head of the Libyan federation.
According to the announcement, discussions covered agriculture, vocational training, capacity building and the transfer of Syrian expertise and skilled professionals. The sides also considered ways to facilitate the movement of businesspeople and investors and strengthen links between business institutions in Libya and Syria.
Participants identified visa issuance for Syrian citizens and businesspeople, along with customs procedures and fees on Libyan imports to Syria, as obstacles to bilateral trade. They discussed possible mechanisms to improve the flow of goods and products between the two countries.
Al-Raed also highlighted a recent federation delegation visit to Syria, saying the meetings reflected a shared interest in developing economic relations. Both sides agreed on the need to turn the proposals into practical agreements and programs supporting trade, investment and the movement of businesspeople and expertise.
