Syria’s First Mobile Dev Hackathon In Homs Crowns Winners For Digital Transformation Solutions

The first training hackathon for mobile application development in Homs has successfully concluded at Homs University. Organized by the Student Body of the Faculty of Information Technology Engineering in collaboration with the ICT Incubator Homs, the event was held under the sponsorship of the Syrian Computer Society (SCS) and Homs University. The competition focused on fostering practical technical skills among Syrian youth to support the nation’s digital transformation goals.

Driving Public Sector Digitalization with Flutter

Throughout the intensive event, participating teams utilized the Flutter framework to build innovative mobile applications. The primary theme of the hackathon was “Digital Transformation in the Government Sector,” challenging students to create functional tools that address social needs and improve administrative efficiency. The experience blended creative design with teamwork and practical application, allowing students to demonstrate their ability to manufacture real-world technical solutions.

Recognizing Top Innovations in Homs

Following project presentations to a specialized jury, three teams were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the local tech scene:

  • First Place: The “Muslim Corner” project, designed for mosque management.
  • Second Place: The “Tanqal” project, focused on internal public transportation solutions.
  • Third Place: The “Wajhat” project, an application for booking inter-provincial trips.

In addition to the official hackathon awards, the first-place winner received a special prize from SCS-NET ISP, while the top three centers were awarded prizes by Innovent.

Strengthening the Regional Tech Talent Pipeline

The closing ceremony also honored the mentors and supporters who guided the students through the development process. By providing a platform for competitive innovation, Homs University and the ICT Incubator are actively working to bridge the gap between academic study and the needs of the Syrian labor market. This initiative highlights the resilience and potential of Syrian youth to innovate and provide tech-driven solutions that serve the community and advance the digital ecosystem.
