UAE Launches Aggressive Two-Year Framework to Automate Government with Agentic AI

3 Min Read

The UAE Government has announced a new framework to integrate Agentic AI across half of its sectors and services within an ambitious two-year timeline. The initiative, revealed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aims to create the world’s first government to extensively use autonomous AI models for execution and decision-making.

Quick Facts

  • Target: 50% of government sectors and services.
  • Timeline: A two-year implementation window.
  • Technology: Autonomous Agentic AI models for independent action.

From Digital to Autonomous

This move marks a significant evolution from the UAE’s previous digital transformation efforts. After two decades of progress, from early eGovernment portals to the integrated UAE Pass identity system, the focus now shifts from digitization to autonomous, intelligence-driven operations. The goal is to redesign government policies and processes around AI capabilities, allowing smart systems to perform tasks proactively.

“Today, AI models can monitor changes, provide analyses, offer recommendations, manage operations, and run an independent series of actions without human intervention,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. “AI will be our government executive partner to support decisions, enhance services, boost the efficiency of operations, and even evaluate results and introduce improvements in real time.”

Accountability and Upskilling

The framework sets a clear two-year deadline, with the performance of ministers and government entities to be assessed based on their speed and ability to adopt the new standards. This top-down accountability is matched by a bottom-up commitment to empower the public sector workforce.

“We will support all federal government employees to master AI tools through continuous specialized training,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid affirmed. “Our goal is to fully engage them in this transformation… As a result, we will have the best experts in the world in government transformation towards artificial intelligence technologies.”

Leadership and Execution

To ensure the project’s success, a dedicated task force has been established. The initiative will be overseen by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, with His Excellency Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, chairing the task force responsible for execution. The implementation will be phased across ministries, with continuous performance assessments to guide a wider rollout.

About the UAE Government AI Strategy

The UAE’s focus on artificial intelligence is a core part of its national vision. In 2017, the country appointed the world’s first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and launched the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, a key pillar of the UAE Centennial 2071 plan. The establishment of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications in 2020 further solidified the nation’s commitment to becoming a global leader in the AI field.
